WI-FI Networking – An Overview

Abstract
Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) is a set of product compatibility standards for wireless local area network (WLAN) based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications. Wi-Fi was intended to be used for mobile devices, LANs and internet access through Access Points. Wi-Fi allows users to roam around the campus with a Laptop equipped with a wireless LAN card/adapter and stay connected to their network wirelessly. The wireless LAN uses either IR rays or RF radio waves for data exchange. Wireless communication is one of the fastest growing technologies. Wireless LAN represents a spectrum of capabilities that support limited distance coverage, longer distance coverage based on the power of transceivers.
